Ofsted Reports

Hindhayes Infant School has been praised by inspectors during its recent Ofsted inspection for providing its pupils with a good education ‘in a safe and nurturing environment where the care, guidance and support they receive are outstanding.’

The inspection which was lead by an HMI praised the way staff work together and show a strong commitment to continuous improvement.  This commitment to do the best for the children in our care has meant that attainment has risen steadily and it is now significantly above the national average in all areas at the end of Key Stage 1.

The report comments on how well pupils enjoy their learning and demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning. ‘The behaviour is good and pupils are polite and respectful to each other and to adults.’

The curriculum was praised for being ‘broad and varied with exciting and innovative trips and visitors used to enhance this provision.’ The range of extra curricular activities such as film club and French club was also found to be strength.

The responses by parents in the questionnaire were commented on as being ‘extremely positive’ with all parents and carers agreeing ‘that their child enjoys school and many commented on well the school has supported their child to settle and make progress.’

One key action point was the attainment of less able children in writing. We had already identified this as an area for development and have been working on this since September. The other key action point was to provide more self initiated activities for the children in the Foundation Stage, which we will incorporate into our planning from January.

We are very pleased with this report as it recognises all the hard work put in by the staff and governors. The inspection took place during an enrichment week so the inspectors were able to see for themselves the creative approach we have towards the curriculum where learning takes place through exciting activities. Being an infant school the children are only with us for a short time so it is imperative that we provide them with a sound base on which to continue their educational journey. We see every opportunity as a learning experience and will continue to build on this success.
