Attendance
We expect all children on roll to attend school every day when the school is in session, as long as they are fit and healthy enough to do so. We do all we can to encourage the children to attend and to put in place appropriate procedures when support is needed. We believe that the most important factor in promoting good attendance is the development of positive attitudes towards school. To this end, we strive to make our school a happy and rewarding experience for all children. We will also make the best provision we can for those children who, for whatever reason, are prevented from coming to school.
It can be surprising to see how a few days absence each half-term can lead to a significant amount over the school year. The Government target for children is for them to be in school 9%-97% of the time. This would mean that children have had about 6 days absence over the whole year.
This table gives more information.
| Attendance |
Above 97% - Less than 6 days absence in the year Excellent attendance! |
95% - 10 days absence in the year Expected attendance. |
90% - 19 days absence in the year - nearly a month! This is below the expected level. |
85% - 29 days absence in the year - six weeks of school - one whole half term! Pupils who fall into this group are considered by the Government to be at the point of persistent absenteeism. Parents may face intervention from the local authority. |
