Hindhayes Handwriting Skills Progression Map
To ensure coherent and sequenced learning for our children in the area of Handwriting, key skills have been identified and mapped across the school including the EYFS to ensure children are ready for the Key Stage One Curriculum. At Hindhayes children in year 1 and year 2 will use aspects of the Pen Pals programme to support skill development and will link letters with a similar formation and orientation into groups. These are 'Curly Caterpillars', 'One armed robots', 'long ladders' and Zig-Zag' monsters. Children in the EYFS will learn to form and orientate letters in the sequence that they will learn them as a part of the Sounds-Write programme and then further practise this formation using the letter family groups.
